Using the ISTE Standards in the development of the Digital Strategy
Standards are important! They ensure that there is accountability as they are clear and measurable goals. The standards can serve as the foundation for effective, teacher-driven professional development; more importantly, they enhance equity and access and the protection of rights, privacy and personal information.
As such, The International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) which is the foremost organization in teaching technology in the classroom has created a dozen quality standards for how students, teachers, administrators, coaches and computer educators should approach technology in the classroom (Zook, 2021). Use of the ISTE standards can promote responsibility in the use of technology, support digital literacy and modern skill building. This is paramount as the future and face of the workforce is changing to have jobs which are more technologically driven.
It is imperative that at The Lodge School, all constituents are introduced to the ISTE standards so that the educational climate supports good choices, behaviours and responsible use when using the digital tools.
